CroydonBites - KH Del Rio Smith, Simon Manyonda, Beth Watson, Katie Hurley
Sat 15 Oct 5.00pm / £12/£8 / Matthews Yard
Suitable for 16+
CroydonBites is a new strand for local artists; a triple bill of bite size shows featuring:
HK Del Rio Smith’s D E S C E N T is an intimate autobiographical performance that uses music, mythology and objecthood.
‘She was just a foolish girl, living with her head in the clouds’, and she was different than her high school friends. Now an adult, the discovery of specific items from her past (which she had long since hidden from herself) sends her into a spiral of stories, that make her question her own version of events. Descending into the dark world of the past she uncovers a secret that will change her forever and force her to confront her own naivety. Using objects, stories and songs from their past, Katia builds a world in which music, memory and myth are interchangeable and invites you to explore what’s true and false in this dark and unforgiving world.
Actor Simon Manyonda (Pennyworth, His Dark Materials, The Bay) presents a scratch presentation of his audio project BLESSED, TRYNA SHAKE THIS CURSE, one of a number of productions Manyonda is working on under his LIA (Life in Art) label.
Beth Watson / Crocus - two self-declared “screaming fangirls” meet on a band fan-forum in 2002. Over 15 years they stay in touch via changing online platforms. Despite only meeting a handful of times IRL, their friendship endures and deepens far beyond the shared fandom of a rock band they quickly grow out of. Crocus combines IRL/digital mediums - reflecting the characters relationship, and uses a mix of scripted/improvised performance giving audiences the chance to influence the characters' choices.
Theatre maker Katie Hurley will explore the place, people and public perception of her home town with a work-in-progress extract of her new show ‘You’re SO f**king Croydon!
